I have been fascinated with pregnancy and birth for as long as I can remember. I grew up on the prairies in Caroline, Alberta, where I witnessed the miracle of birth at my grandmother’s ranch on many occasions. Birth stories were commonly shared in our household. My sisters and I loved to hear my mother recount the tales of our own births. Eventually, my fascination with the capabilities of the human body led me into the health sciences. During my studies at Mount Royal University, I was introduced to the art of midwifery and immediately fell in love with its philosophies, and the holistic approach it brings to maternity care. I soon realized that I wanted to dedicate my life to empowering women throughout their pregnancy, labour, and birth.
Shortly after achieving my Bachelor of Science degree in 2014, I enrolled in MRU’s Bachelor of Midwifery program. During my time as a student midwife, I discovered the beauty of birth and the immense strength of those undertaking it. I was privileged to learn from talented midwives in both rural and urban settings across Alberta, which helped to define my practice. In 2019 I earned my Bachelor of Midwifery degree and became a registered midwife. I am thrilled to be a part of Prairie Midwives and look forward to serving families in Red Deer, Alberta.
